Morgan Freeman finally explains why he wears gold hoop earrings, and the answer is darker than you may assume

There aren’t many actors in the canon of beloved film stars who have stood the test of time and remained relevant as well as Morgan Freeman.

Over the course of his half-century career in show business, the 86-year-old actor has seen and done it all, and he has undoubtedly gained a sizable following in the process.

It seems like Freeman has actually achieved the incredibly rare feat of being almost universally adored. He is well known for his extraordinary work ethic and memorable roles in some of the best films ever made, in addition to his unmatched soothing voice. Besides, he has no record of scandal.

The Shawshank Redemption actor has portrayed many different roles over the years, but one thing that fans have noticed is that he never fails to wear his signature golden earrings.

You’re undoubtedly aware of Morgan Freeman’s golden earrings if you’re into him.

Ironically, there’s no reason why he’s not selling them in.

Sources claim that since he was a young man, Freeman has worn them through all of the highs and lows of his lengthy and distinguished career.

Despite being one of the most well-known celebrities in the world today, Freeman had to overcome many obstacles in order to succeed, at least in his field.

Freeman did not start his profession as a young man or even as a child, in contrast to the majority of other male movie stars of today. Rather, the performer was forced to wait for his opportunity until he was older than fifty. His career took off after the 1986 release of the film Street Smart, and the rest is, as they say, history.

Since then, Freeman’s reputation on the big screen has increased. For Street Smart in 1986, The Shawshank Redemption in 1994, and Invictus in 2014, he was nominated for three Academy Awards. He won an Oscar in 2005 for his role in Million Dollar Baby.

Celebrity Net Worth estimates that Freeman’s late-blooming career has contributed to his $250 million (£199 million) total net worth. The seasoned actor has consistently worn the same set of gold earrings in spite of this.

He ultimately gave his supporters an explanation for his decision to wear the hoops by posting, “These earrings,” on Instagram after giving it some thought. I get asked about them all the time. To be really honest, the only thing worth having is enough for someone to buy me a casket in the unlikely event that I pass away in an unknown location. I wear them, and sailors do too, for that reason.

However, Freeman stated in a 2016 interview with Fox News that Burt Lancaster’s golden earrings from the 1952 movie The Crimson Pirate served as his inspiration.

I thought that was really hot. Then I learned that sailors would wear gold earrings to help with the cost of their funeral if they passed away in a remote area. “It’s perfect, being a sailor,” Freeman continued.

I was completely ignorant of that! Did you also?
